Allison Willis Holley

Hello,

I’m a school systems leader with 20 years of experience driving educational equity - teaching, founding a school, and managing school principals as deputy superintendent at one of the top performing school networks in NYC. I am passionate about strong schools and a strong community.

Priorities

  • Excellent teachers are the foundation of student learning and growth. When teachers feel supported and valued, they are able to joyfully focus on meeting their students’ different learning needs. Amidst the current teacher shortage and the fraught state political environment, retaining our talented teachers and attracting more amazing people to the profession must be a top priority.

  • CHCCS has a compelling vision and strategic plan. I want to help make it a reality. I support our superintendent’s plan to ensure CHCCS is a truly excellent school district for all of our students. With our core values of Engagement, Social Justice Action, Collective Efficacy, Wellness and Joy, I support centering equity in all that we do to ensure all our students are on a path to realize their full potential. A great school board holds the superintendent and the district accountable to aligning actions, decisions, and funding priorities to our values and mission.

  • Parent and community support for our public schools are both essential in a functioning democracy and vital to the future of our local community. We need to continue to engage our parents, families, and community members to be public school advocates at the state level, where public schools remain underfunded and under attack, while also continuing to partner with our local schools and support their daily work.

  • World-class schools have a culture of strategic innovation and the ability to spread best practices quickly. Innovation in schools is part of a growth-mindset that drives all members to achieve. Space for creativity and innovation also attracts and retains the best talent for our schools and is a powerful motivator for students.

Accomplishments

  • After teaching 7th & 8th grade English through Teach For America in New York City, I became a founding teacher at KIPP Infinity Middle School in Harlem. As a founding teacher and future leader, I developed curriculum, designed programming, led out-of-state field lessons, coached sports, and ultimately became the school’s principal. My leadership centered on adapting academics to the rigor of Common Core standards, launching our ICT program to support our exceptional learners, and expanding outside partnerships and programs to spark passion and love of learning in our students. Our school was nationally recognized for its academic results and was featured in Dan Coyle’s book The Talent Code.

  • After leading KIPP Infinity Middle School, I worked as the deputy superintendent for KIPP NYC Public Schools, focusing on school leader development. I coached and managed 11 principals across 9 public middle schools over 6 years, supporting them in all aspects of school leadership. While leading schools during the recent pandemic was exceptionally challenging, I am proud that all of my principals returned to the job in 2021 and 2022.

  • As deputy superintendent, I led the implementation of a stronger Tier 1 curriculum for all our middle school students. After increasing support and coaching for EC teachers, we implemented an aligned curriculum for literacy and math Tier 2 interventions. I led a new vision for differentiated instruction that focused on student work and student data as the driving forces for differentiated instruction. I also supported our social workers engagement with social-emotional learning and more regular interventions for students impacted by trauma.
